Looks sharp and clean
First corals in the tank include a Pacific East Aquaculture purple wispy willow gorgonian and a few frags of zoas from my nano tank. I have a bunch of other corals from Pacific East Aquaculture in my observation tank that I will eventually move into this tank as well.
Very nice addition. I have had a Gorgonian from PEA in my tank for @ 10 yrs now.
Plenty of my corals are from Dr. Mac, I live like 15 mins from there
I transferred Ophelia and Homer from my nano into the 130.4 this afternoon. Everything went smoothly. I also transferred their toadstool so hopefully they will find it and settle back into it.
Do gorgonians require dosing? I know they are photosynthetic, but was wondering do they need supplementation.
I think some will dose trace elements but I think with water changes I can replenish whatever it needs. I
am looking into a dosing system though and down the line that dose trace elements.
I love Gorgs!!!
I ordered 2 AI Nero 5 pumps. I chose the Nero5 because I like the quality of AI LED lights and I can control the lights and these pumps through the AI ap. The slim profile is also nice. Initially I placed them both in the back wall to camouflage them but that caused annoying bare spots in the front corners of the tank so I moved them to the sides.
That’s an awesome perch! Hope he continues to hang out there
One of my AI hydra lights failed. Yesterday it would not turn on. I got a “fan fault” message so I cleaned the fan. It still would not turn on. I messaged the company and they are replacing the light since it it still under warranty. For now I have a spare AI Prime on half of my tank.
I finally pulled the trigger on Apex!
Pictured is the base unit, energy bar, Trident water analyzer, Dos fluid metering system, Dos Dual Reservoir (DDR), & 6 month reagent supply.
Before unpack this I’m looking for a matching side storage unit (floor cabinet) to put it all in next to the tank. I do have some storage in the original cabinet but I think things will get too cramped in there.
It’s an investment for sure but I think you’ll be happy. No personal experience with the trident but enjoy the base unit and DOS to auto-water changes tremendously.
My weekend project is to get the apex up and running and organized on the controller board. The small box in the picture is the magnetic probe rack.
Things have come to a standstill as far as livestock additions. I’ve been focusing more on the automation stuff lately. Once that is up and running I’m going to transfer some LPS corals from my nano tank into this tank and order some aquacultured fish.
Kool. Keep us posted on the setup of the controller. If I decide to go with mixed reef tank I’ll will have to get one. Being home all the time I do have the time to do things manually but I dig tech and hydros is slow to advance.
It is a start. I got the French pleat hook mounted in the aquarium cabinet to hold the controller board and the apex and the power strip mounted to the controller board face.
I have aquaillumination lights and wavemakers so I think I’ll keep those on their own separate power strip and won’t integrate them with the apex. I already have the aquaillumination ap so I don’t see a huge benefit in doing so. If a wavemaker goes out I don’t need to be alerted… it’s not as vital as a return pump dying…let me know if you have an opinion on this.
