225 GALLON (slow) TANK BUILD

well, get it flushed and filled ASAP and get it running again to keep it aerated. add some good bacteria starter and stir the sand often. without flow and foul goop taking up the oxygen, the sand goes anerobic real fast and has to be flushed, and restarted to clean itself up. it will put out hydrogen sulfide. put a poly pad in the return filter too. that will soak up some of the H2S. and other misc. things. and lots of carbon.

do you still have the old tank running to hold stuff?

A, I am really sorry for you. I FEEL for you buddy, had something like that happen to me the first time I moved my tank from one house to another.

I will donate a frag of anything you had of my corals from my tank to get your new tank back. Or any other acros that I have.

Oh, it just sank in it was your temp holding system that crashed. did you already have a bunch of corals in the new system? or the old tank? if everything was squeezed into the 40, some may have been touching each other. that could start the chain reaction crash of several coral wars melting a few, fouling the water for the rest. that happened to my frag tank after a major cleaning and rearranging. cant put them back they weay they were packed close before, without touching. i lost a bunch of colonies that way.

get it fixed, and like John said, we got frags for you. I can replace most of what youve gotten from me before.

Thanks guys. Yea, it sucks. Work so hard to take care of these guys and in one instance all wipe out and gone. You may be right Ken. That could very well be the possibility. It was fairly packed in that temp tank.

I did manage to still have some of the acro, but not the high end ones, that was attached to the rock in the new tank, including the calms. I lost those that were not attached to a rock, frags that I got from you, red dragon, efflo and some of the larger colonies that was just growing on the frag rack.

Thanks John and Ken. I will definitely take any acro donation from you if you guys have any to give. I’m still in the process of aquascaping the tank, it’s taken for ever to get it done. Damn work gets in the way.

A sorry to hear about the tank crash. Your welcome to some frags from me whenever your ready.

If you feel like taking a ride, I’ll throw in some Green Slimer, Frogskin, Tricolor Valida, and Pink Birdsnest.

That really sucks A - sorry to hear.Â

Unfortunately I think we’ve all had it happen. I lost everything while on vacation once. Came home to find a fish had died, the ammonia spike nuked a 14" anemone that wiped out the entire tank. Lost every coral I had.

dang A. sorry to hear that…I probably don’t have any corals of much use for you yet but as soon as I do I will try to help out too. Good Luck

I have plenty of room in my frag tank if you would like me to hold anything unitll your back up and healthy no charge

I will be up that way on Saturday if anybody needs a pick up

As the others have said, totally feel for you man, sorry to hear about that loss, super frustrating.

Wish I could do more to help, but all I got right now is… GSP and shrooms. :stuck_out_tongue:

Keep that head high man!

A, I will pm you with a list of some frags I can bring up to the next meeting.

Thanks for the sympathy guys and thanks for the offer as well, greatly appreciated.

Little bit more update: those acros frags that I tried to save are gone. I didn’t think they were gonna get well anyway, the way they looked. Some of the LPS are trying to open up, they may come back.

John, greatly appreciated! thank you for your help.

Some more update:

Finally got some time to put the LEDs up on the tank. Aquascape is about 90% done. Still have some frags left in the frag tank to put in the tank.

One sad note: the clam that was pictured in our club inaugural frag swap poster did not make the move. He was still attached to a rock loosely, then today he let go of his byssus footing. So, my questions to those clams experts. Can the clam stay alive with out its foot?

Maybe I’ll get it all done this weekend then do water parameter check after that.

a, if the clam just lost its threads, he’ll be fine. losing the foot, the actual foot, prolly not. likely you’ll know soon. let him be don’t move or anything else for a couple days, unless he begins to disintegrate. and i join everyone else in saying how sorry i am about the crash

Thanks Paul. Yes, his whole byssus foot not just the byssal thread. It looks like he just jump off the rock in the left pic where the monti plate is and landed right next to the deresa. And he hasn’t open up like he usually does. I’m just gonna leave it alone where he’s at and hopefully those other nasrious snail will not jump and start eating him. We’ll see when I get home.

A, it’s looking sweet man. Sorry for the crash but I know you will bounce back in no time. Lmk if there’s anything I can do.

Thanks Casey. Yea, I hope so. I’m taking my time to build this and get it the way I wanted to run. It’s coming along.

Just moniter the clam A, I’ve had them survive without them but they seem to die more then survive when the gland comes out.

Did the deep water acro I got ya survive? I can get ya another piece if if didnt make it.

I lost just about every SPS when I changed tanks, it sucks but sometimes starting over is a good thing just makes ya try harder.

The Tank is looking good A. Looks like you did have some crash survivors, or where those corals already in the main tank and not in the temp tank that crashed. let us know when you think the new tank system is ready to get new frags. and I’ll give you some choices of frags i can replace.
