Thanks ken
PLEASE be careful with heaters. If you are sure you will use one Make sure the cords are kept safe and the risk of pulling it out is minimized. The last thing we need is for someone reaching into a tank to pull out a glass heater onto the ground… saltwater, electric, shattered glass, children present… Again please be careful.
Not an inexpensive item, but neither is a legal battle: (and can you put a price on what you may be putting in danger… like yourself) http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/store/products/miscellaneous/aquarium-heaters/true-temp-safety-guard-kit-includes-magnets.html
Looking at this you may get ideas as well for DIY ways to do the same thing.
Setup looks sweet John. Can’t wait to see the frags in it.
thanks Jon. Great info about heaters.
Sent you a PM
I have been thinking about how I am going to transport my frags to the swap because of the 2hr ride. Really didn’t want to bag each frag up, too time consuming. So I did a search on you tube and saw this great idea being used by a vendor.
It’s an acrylic tray system with sliding frag racks. And the beauty of it is that the whole system is just the right fit for a 5 gallon bucket. Just place the frags on the trays, slide the trays onto the rack and place it in a bucket and seal it with a lid. BRILLIANT!!!
So here is a pic of what I made, it is not complete yet. I need to drill holes on the trays for frag plugs to sit in and 2 finger holes for the top.
BRILLIANT!!! indeed.
you have so great ideas my friend… truely
Here is the same idea but you also use the rack to display your frags as well.
Cool. It is truly a great idea. The vendor that I saw on You Tube was also using his trays to display, but his racks were made of black acrylic, so in his frag tank they looked really good. I will try and find the video that i saw and post the link.
found it
Now that is a sweet idea. Even buying the rack is not to bad could use them in the frag tank and just move em into the bucket when its swap time.
I just called Andy at TheBlueGlow.com nice guy. I am ordering the stackables tonight. He is not doing the frag tanks atm due to increase in the frag rack demand so he is sticking with them as the main objective.
So many things to buy so little time in a lifetime…
John,
another way is to cut round pieces of egg crate to fit in a bucket. and tie wrap short pvc legs on them, so that you can stack two or three layers in a bucket, each full of frags. If you have a small car inverter, like a couple hundred watts, that you can plug into the cigarette lighter, you could run a small 25 or 50 watt heater, and a small power head in the bucket. or an air pump and air stone in the bucket. you would need to cut a couple small holes in the lid to get the wires, and tubing through. then set the bucket and lid in a tall plastic bin or tub, to keep any little water from splashing out the holes soaking your car when you brake like a maniac or careen around curves. and tie it down or shim it with plastic jugs or something so it dont slide around in the tub. Inverters from Pep boys or walmart?
I think i would do something like that for a longer trip.
All very good suggestions Ken, but I don’t think I will need a heater for a 2hr trip, if the bucket will be inside my truck with the heat on.
drilled all the holes on the rack. i like the way it turned out.
Have any pics to share?
That is pretty cool John
thanks, just got home, will posts pics of the finished rack in the morning
Can someone copy this post and post it over on RC for us?
We’re a week away!!! Over 150 attendees expected, 25 vendors setting up tables, a ton of raffle items. Gift bags for the first 150 through the door.
AND we’ve found a way to keep the “significant other” from yelling at you for taking the good hand towels out of the guest bathroom …
They look nice ::
