Hullette's 45g Rimless

Welcome Home! I run a couple tanks with a fuge on the side. If you have room next to the tank for a small tank and stand, 15-20-30g/ you can feed it with a maxi jet in the sump, and a return overflow hose, back to the sump. I made a couple out of acrylic, so they are easy to drill for the bulkheads. With acrylic you can make whatever size you want. one of mine is a 24 x 18 x 16 high , 30 gallon. I have a plenum sandbed in that one, with Prolifera growing on top of the sand. the other is 12 gallons, to fit on a longer stand i made for a shallow frag tank. it is just a little sand on the bottom and a couple live rocks for the prolifera to attach to. both work pretty good. . Home Depot has some 1/4 inch acrylic in several precut sizes and a sheet of 36 x 72. i once made two 40 breeder size tanks from that size sheet. perfect size for sumps.

I dont know how big a tank you will use for your sump, but the other shallow frag tank i have a 40 breeder size acrylic sump, no baffles. but i put a small fuge in by using an 7 gallon plastic type rectangular file box. i put it on two mini milk crates from the dollar store so that it stands up just under the top of the sump rim. and i put a bulkhead in one top corner for and overflow, and i feed it with the outflow from my seaclone skimmer. it just dumps into the fuge. no extra pumps needed.

Thanks Kap for the reply. I have a 10gallon for my sump. I don’t have a lot of room so thats about as big as i could get in there so I’m deciding to try and rig something up and try a fuge or just stick with the big skimmer and no fuge. Just some thoughts, everything ran fine the way i had it set up before.

UPDATE:

Hey guys,

Ive been plumbing, leak testing and painting the tank and getting it ready for its second setup. This time i will be running this system as a BB reef tank. After a few months, sometime during the summer i will start a sumer project and build a new stand with enough room to house a larger sump and refugium, but thats a whole other project, should have the tank up by this weekend.

Glad to be back…

Hey guys got a question for everyone, Im building an aquascape with my dry rock and am going to epoxy it all together to keep from busting my tank incase of falling rocks. My question for y’all is should i let the rock sit in RO or regular tap water for a couple days or just rinse it and put it right into the tank once i start to fill it.

Also how should i go about cycling a BB tank with all dry rock?

Here is some info, enjoy!

New mate for my picasso sense her other mate decided to jump 3 days after i arrived home from my deployment.
Props to Jason @ clownfishsushi for an amazing clown and one hell of a setup at his place. I highly recommend anyone looking for a grade A set of clowns to go visit him.

What you guys/gals think?
ENJOY, god knows I’m sitting here enjoying them as we speak.

Nice looking platinum there Casey. Hope it’ll work out with the other one. No sign of aggression right? look like it will pair up?

Thanks A. knock on wood i haven’t seen any aggression from picking them up last night to right now. If one swims to the other side the other will follow no matter which one it is. So with fingers crossed, I’m hopping they pair up nicely.

Yup, Jason’s perseverance has paid off. He raises some reall nice fish. You got a couple beauties there.

Thanks boss i appreciate it.

Nice clowns BC, I’m hoping to get a mated pair from Jason once I know my tank is stable (lower the nitrates) and get proper lighting setup. Have any full tank shots? I saw earlier it appeared you painted the under side of the bottom glass white? Looks nice, interested to see how it looks setup. From what I’ve read, thanks also for your service to our country!

Thanks Faralon, Jason does have some superb fish. My next purchase from him will def be a pair of his onyx they looked amazing. I don’t have any FTS yet because its not setup yet. They are in my little 14g biocube until the new tank is cycled and rock is fully cured. Should have them in the bigger tank in the next couple weeks. I am going bare bottom this time around on my 45g so we will see how it turns out.

Thanks for your support, happy to serve, especially when people appreciate it.

Take care

Little update. Finally after having to scrape the bottom and paint it over and over again, the 4th time was a charm. Rolled on rustoleum oil based flat white paint. Got the rocks in the tank today and starting the tank cycle. LMK what you guys think.

It looks good, I kinda like the clean look you get from a barebottom! Sweet aquascape.

A- Its pretty hard to not put sand in but I’m gonna try to keep that clean look.
Bill- thanks bud
JT- Thank, i really like the clean crisp look.

It gets dirty quick hehe. Mine is only up and running for about 2 months and it’s already tan (from white).
