I hope that’s not all of the skimmer. It seems that you’re missing a bottom part? if you’re only using a rio pump then you are missing a venturi for it or a pump specific for protein skimmer that makes bubbles.
I think you might want to considered getting a new skimmer. What you have will not be sufficient. What size is your sump?
That’s all that’s in there well 2 of them actually. But yeah I was thinking I may need to just get a new one. The sump itself is about 20 inches wide 4 ft long so I’m not sure how many gals it holds.
Yea, you definitely missing some parts. Either the venturi or the pump. Your sump should have large enough compartment for a new skimmer. All depends on the head room for the skimmer height.
Yeah I think I want to redo the entire filtration system. Looking at some of the ones on here Im behind the times
well, volume is easy if you have the tank dimensions in inches. 231 cubic inches per gallon.
So Ive got all these tiny worms in the sand bed. Some are red some tan. Are they ok? Should I get something to eat them?
Its hard to see in this pic but its the red thing in the middle

They are very good thing to have if you are doing the deep sand bed. How deep is your sand bed?
I’m doing the same thing to mine. Just waiting to get some worms to seed the sand bed.

Ok, I guess it’s a close up pic that’s why it look deep. Either way those worms are beneficial to your tank.

Yeah that’s actually a high spot maybe 3 inches. The big clown fish likes to fan it’s tail to make hills and depressions in the sand. That’s one of its piles it made
Anything feed on the little red worms? To keep them in check they seem to be multiplying pretty fast.
I’m not really sure they will multiply to where it will be a nuisance and not really sure if there’s anything will feed on them. Maybe someone else may know about. All I know that they are good for the sand bed.
However, there is a sea star called sand sifting star. It will eat the organisms in the sand bed, but not sure it will eat those worms though. All I know is that they do damage to deep sand bed and not to keep them if you keep DSB.
maybe an arrow crab or probably a sand sifting gobie.

I’d like to get a Gobie they are fun to watch
I had a diamond goby for awhile they’re fun to watch. Make sure you have a lid on your tank though, mine jumped to it’s death out of the tank!
